Hewlett-Packard Co is reversing into the Intel Corp architecture under its 1994 microprocessor alliance with Intel. First implementations, Very Long Instruction Word and other post-RISC and complex instruction set techniques will appear in Intel’s P7. Precision Architecture RISC compatibility will also be an option. Our sister paper Unigram.X was told that Hewlett-Packard Precision Architecture users can expect P6 performance out of a P7 with compatibility achieved perhaps in hardware, software, or both – we don’t know. Hewlett-Packard is providing engineering resources and development staff on which other Intel partners, including Compaq Computer Corp, Sequent Computer Systems Corp, Unisys Corp and AT&T Global Information Solutions will draw.
