Global Technologies Group Inc has released a new hardware encryption accelerator called PowerCrypt aimed at the low end OEM market of firewall vendors. PowerCrypt is a IPSec compliant PCI Card based on Hi-fn’s 7751 encryption and compression ASIC chip. The PowerCrypt Encryption Accelerator supports protocols such as DES, Triple DES, RC4, SHA-1 and MD5. GTGI claims that the card sustains data throughputs of 10Mbps in triple DES mode and 27 Mbps in 56-bit DES mode. The product will ship at the end of this month with software device drivers for Windows NT, FreeBSD and Linux, for $500 each, though quantity sales would reduce the unit price.
