Google is developing a videogame console and a wristwatch powered by Android operating system as part of plans to expand its software reach, reports have suggested.
Citing people familiar with the matter, the Wall Street Journal reported that the company is also planning to release a second version of an Android-powered media-streaming device, dubbed Nexus Q, which was introduced in 2012.
The news agency added that Google expects to design and market the devices itself and release at least one of them this fall.
Apart from Google, Sony, Microsoft, LG and Apple are also developing a new smartwatch to compete against each other.
The Journal reported that Google, through its Android unit and Google X hardware lab, is planning to build devices separately from the company’s Motorola hardware division.
Google, which acquired Motorola in 2012, is reported to be currently focused on unveiling an Android-based smartphone dubbed the Moto X, the people familiar to the matter said.
Earlier this year, Google unveiled Google Glass, an Android powered, Internet-connected device similar to a smartphone that operates on voice commands.
