Google has acquired the patent for ‘computer phone’ from IBM, which gives Google the right to own a computer integrated cordless phone and give it an edge in its legal tussle against rivals like Apple and Microsoft.
As many as 187 granted patents and 29 pending ones were also acquired from IBM in what is one of the big chunk of legal assets acquired, and the transaction was posted in the assignment database of United States Patent and Trademark Office.
The patents will be covering not only hardware technology but web-pages, such as those for ‘selecting and rendering a section of a web page.’
This move by Google adds to 1,000 patents from IBM acquired in July and another 1,023 in September the last year.
Google has simultaneously struck deal with HTC, which underlines its affinity towards Android manufacturers as well, and that is seen as a defence against the likes of Apple.
