General Electric Co reports that it has granted games playing computer builder Sega Enterprises Ltd of Japan a licence to use its image processing technology in Sega’s video and arcade games. Sega will incorporate GE’s photo-texture technology, which is claimed to give image generators the ability to produce continuous, life-like imagery drawn from real-world photographic sources, in low-cost graphics boards. The technical assistance and licence agreement between GE and Sega is the first step in a long-term relationship that will see both companies join forces in the development of highly-realistic amusement products, GE said, adding that Sega has already developed computer graphics hardware for use with the GE technology. Sega expects the agreement to enable it to develop arcade games with enhanced graphics. GE, which owns the National Broadasting Corp television network, is ready with next generation image generating products.
