From all the flackery coming out of the Greenville, South Carolina company over the past couple of years, people would have been forgiven for thinking that Gates/FA Distributing Inc was doing really well – and indeed it has been making modest profits each quarter and turnover was in excess of $300m for its last fiscal. But the board is clearly not satisfied, because it has called in Robinson-Humphrey Co Inc to help it review strategic alternatives – usually code for putting the company up for sale. Gates/FA says that while its board has not yet made a firm decision to sell the company, one of the alternatives under consideration is sale of the company or a similar transaction that would lead to a change of control. Gates/FA specialises in distribution of personal computers, networking hardware and software, mass storage products and other peripherals, offering next-day delivery and free technical support to all customers.
