The W-Client USB.11g from Nuremberg-based FEC comes with drivers for Windows 2000 and XP, and also for Windows CE, versions 4.2 and 5.0 (Windows Mobile). It uses the PRISM Nitro acceleration software from US network silicon vendor Conexant Systems Inc to increase throughput of 802.11g traffic, adding 50% in 11g-only networks and tripling it in mixed a/b/g environments.
The device is designed for use with laptops that either don’t have the CardBus interface for slotting in card, or have all their slots already in use, and also for PDAs and smart phones. It has drivers for versions 4.2 and 5.0 of Windows CE.
Morris Becker, international sales manager for FEC, said it is ideal for the increasing number of WinCE PDAs and SmartPhones that come with USB ports as well as embedded PC systems running Windows CE to optimize hardware resources. These systems often have no hard disk and require an external connection to access data, update RAM and download new applications.
Funkwerk markets its products across Europe through its distribution channel. The W-Client USB.11g has a list price of 39 euros ($47).
