Fujitsu Ltd is using Inmos International Ltd’s Transputer chips as the hardware base for a new development in parallel database processing. The company is calling the new technique Parallel keyword and parallel rearrangement. Information is stored as a key and actual data, and keys are arrayed prior to retrieval until data is finally arrayed, only processing on keys is performed across an array of parallel processors, and with eight Transputers, complex searches are claimed to be speeded four-fold over conventional database retrieval methods. No word on the status of the development or how near it is to coming out as a product.
