Spain is the one country in Europe where most of Fujitsu Ltd’s Japanese computer systems are marketed, and Fujitsu Espana is keeping its medium-sized management systems in Spain updated with the launch of its new range of K-600 machines, the company’s answer to IBM’s AS/400. The K-600, which follows on from the K-260, K-270, K-280 and K-300, is complemented by the S-1300, S-1500 and S-2600 which have already been launched in Spain, and the company hopes to sell 500 units this year (with the first sales last month) building up to 2,000 in 1992. Prices will range, depending on the configuration, from $13,000 to $385,000. Apart from being more powerful, K-600 also comes with a major enhancement to the CSP operating system, CSP/FX, which is compatible with the CSP/F5 used in the previous models, but adds support for Structured Query language relational database processing and standard high-level languages, and includes Open Systems Interconnection and ISDN communications functions, enabling connection to other systems to facilitate data exchange and virtual terminal networks. It supports 112 local workstations and a maximum of 48 communications lines. The K-600 line comprises seven models ranging from the low-end K-630/20 to the top of the range K-670/30. The CSP/FX operating system supports the Fujitsu Systems Integration Architecture answer to IBM’s Systems Application Architecture for easy migration to Fujitsu mainframes. It also incorporates the FX-RDB relational database, based on the dual physicallogical file system, as well as resourcesecurity management for limiting access to information to authorised personnel, and the company claims to have wide range of packages written in high-level languages, Cobol in particular. CSP/FX also enables K-600 systems to offer be used as servers and to be integrated into an IBM SNA network and support MS-DOS micros as terminals; integration with OS/2 and Unix is planned. The hardware includes a Disk Buffer, and the K-670/20 and K-670/30 are multiprocessors; communications processors are used to offload to CPU, and a 130Mb streamer is offered for back-up.
