Ravaged Enterprise Computer Holdings Plc is attempting to adapt to the changing times and refocus into different marketplaces. Calling itself a one-stop information technology house now, it aims to push the range of services it has on offer, while trying to move away from its traditional image of broking and upgrading IBM Corp mainframe hardware. The services side is said to have been around for a long time, but suffered from inadequate marketing, with sales being based on word-of-mouth. However, such a blase attitude is apparently now a thing of the past. And to this end, business is to be consolidated into three major sites in three main markets (CI No 2,004). By November, all technical and marketing facilities are to be based in Winnersh, near Reading, Berkshire in the UK, Langen, near Frankfurt in Germany and King of Prussia, Pennsylvania in the US. Services are to include everything from downsizing to systems integration, the only exception being the provision of personal computers. Here, the market is seen as too cut-throat and other sources are to be used if customers require the machines, such as its 78.8%-owned Bleasdale Computer Systems Plc or Hoskyns Group Plc. Enterprise is to lose about a quarter of its workforce and is hoping that its new streamlined look will help push it back into profit.
