Enterprise mobility experts prioritise security in 2014

Good Technology report shows activations of security based apps soaring.

By Alexander Sword

Security is being taken increasingly seriously in enterprise mobility, according to research from Good Technology.

The latest Mobility Index Report saw that activations of secure mobile apps grew 65 percent in Q4 2014 and 300 percent throughout the year.

The research found that secure mobile browsing apps were the most activated during the quarter, up tenfold during the year. Secure instant messaging also rose by nine times throughout the year.

"One of the biggest challenges CEOs and boards are facing today is understanding how to best mitigate cyber risks," said Christy Wyatt, chairman and CEO at Good Technology.

"The end user is often the weakest link in any security model. Ensuring employees, customers and partners are using secure-based apps across mobile workflows is one critical component in building cyber resiliency across any organisation."

The report also showed that iOS is still the preferred platform for enterprise mobility management, with its share of activations increasing from 69 percent to 73 percent in Q4. Android’s market share correspondingly declined to 25 percent from 29 percent.

"The iOS market share upswing is largely due to the introduction of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus last September with their impact carrying over into Q4 2014," the report states.
