Emulex has unveiled its OneConnect Universal Converged Network Adapters (UCNAs) for 10Gb/s ethernet and Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) connectivity for select HP ProLiant rack, tower and blade servers.
The company claims that its OneConnect FCoE UCNA allows IT administrators to converge their physical networks, while maintaining their application, server, storage and security administration domains. It includes NC550SFP Dual Port 10Gb/s server adapter, StorageWorks CN1000E Dual Port Converged Network Adapter (CNA) for HP ProLiant rack and tower servers, and NC550m Dual Port Flex-10 10Gb/s Ethernet Adapter for HP ProLiant blade servers.
The company said that the CN1000E CNA is capable of running 10Gb/s ethernet and FCoE concurrently and/or independently on any port. The OneConnect UCNA has hardware protocol offload support for Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), iSCSI and FCoE; and reduces server overhead and increases the number of virtual machines that can run on virtualised servers.
According to Emulex, the NC550m Dual Port Flex-10 10Gb/s ethernet adapter is used with 10Gb/s ethernet blade interconnect options, and allows customers to divide the adapter 10Gb/s ports into up to four physical ports and allocate bandwidth in increments of 100Mb/s, according to their workload needs.
In addition, the CN1000E CNA and OneConnect UCNAs utilise OneCommand Manager for virtualised enterprise management for deployment, provisioning, asset management, virtual I/O services, connectivity management for virtualised and converged networking environments, the company said.
Steve Daheb, chief marketing officer and senior vice president of business development at Emulex, said: “This announcement with HP is a significant proof point in the maturation and deployment of 10Gb/s Ethernet deployment in the market. HP is using 10Gb/s ethernet and FCoE to dramatically improve network performance, optimise virtualisation and simplify server and networking infrastructure.
“Consistent with the aims of HP’s Converged Infrastructure architecture, Emulex is working with HP to deliver standards-based connectivity solutions to customers that work with their existing infrastructure, helping them simultaneously improve performance and reduce costs.”
