IEMC already has a similar arrangement with oil and gas industry giant Schlumberger Ltd, in a deal that was announced in 2004. Halliburton is however an even larger business than Schlumberger, and will push EMC further into the market for storage hardware and software in oil and gas exploration.

Halliburton’s digital and consulting solutions division, under its Landmark brand, will offer systems that combine its own software with EMC’s disk arrays, Documentum content management software, and other products.

The oil and services giant said that this is the first such relationship for Landmark concerning content management software. Landmark has previously licensed IBM Corp’s Tivoli software, but said that software is primarily focused on storage management.
