Data General Corp has signed agreements with a host of data extraction tool specialists to port and test software to run on its AViiON AV 20000 Numa-based server as part of its business data warehouse program. The Westboro, Massachusetts-based firm says the deals will follow the current trend of providing targeted products aimed at specific industries such as retail, healthcare, telecommunications and manufacturing. The agreements cover Constellar Corp’s Constellar Hub rules-based transformation package, Information Advantage Inc’s ROLAP DecisionSuite, the Decisionhouse package from Edinburgh, Scotland-based Quadstone Ltd, and VMark Software Inc’s Datastage data extraction package. Applications will initially support the Oracle database and tools, though other options are under consideration. Some of the ports and implementations are already in place, with the rest due for completion by year-end. Prices for entry-level four-processor systems start at around $70,000 ranging up to $690,000 for a 32- processor AV20000 with 4Gb memory. The company estimates a typical installation as costing between $200,000 and $300,000 for hardware and an additional figure of $250,000 for the software licenses.
