DataCentred signs into open source alliance

Company joins the Open Invention Network to protect Linux users against software patent aggression.

By Joao Lima

DataCentred has joined the Open Invention Network (OIN) to leverage the use of open source and protect users of the Linux OS against software patent aggression.

The OIN is an organisation created to promote patent collaboration and non-aggression in support of Linux, according to the company.

DataCentred has committed itself to not use its own patent portfolio against Linux in exchange for protection against patent aggression.

The company said its OpenStack compute and Ceph storage cloud platform runs entirely on Linux.

Matt Jarvis, Head of Cloud Computing at DataCentred, said:"Linux and open source are the future of the software industry and supporting patent non-aggression is crucial if we want to encourage collaboration, innovation and growth amongst developers, distributors and users."

"As we enter the era of cloud, joining the Open Invention Network demonstrates DataCentred’s commitment to building a secure, creative, shared open source platform for the future."
