Emphasising again its determination to recast its business for survival and back into sustained profitability, Data General Corp yesterday announced that it was selling its 95.6%-owned Japanese subsidiary, Nippon Data General Corp to Omron Corp for an estimated $47m, the price including the holdings of the two local partners, Kozo Keikaku Engineering Inc with 3.7% and Toyoda Machine Works Ltd with 0.7%. Omron, which is diversifying from its core electronic cash register and point of sale terminal business into workstations and office systems, says that the deal will provide it with assistance in supply and distribution of office automation equipment, product development and research into hardware and software technology. Nippon Data General reported total turnover of $106m in the year to September 30 1990.
