Internet-connected TV service YouView has been deployed by 400,000 UK homes since its launch eight months ago.

The firm had distributed set top boxes to customers as part of broadband packages offered by BT and TalkTalk, partners in the BBC-sponsored joint venture together with ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and Arqiva.

YouView CEO Richard Halton said that YouView is now the fastest-growing TV service in the UK, as the business released its first official set-top box figures upon its long delayed debut in July 2012 .

"We’ve had a great start and we’re delighted to have received such a positive response from consumers," Halton said.

"We’re already the fastest growing TV service in the UK and now we can see that translating into viewing."

Allowing users to play on-demand programmes from the main broadcasters through BBC iPlayer, ITV Player or Channel 4’s 4OD, YouView is also planning to add Internet subscription channels to its programme guide during summer 2013.

"Seamless access to content is at the heart of the YouView proposition and we are delighted to announce that internet channels are set to launch this summer as well as the extension of our app strategy to the Android platform," Halton said.
