The downloadable application enables consumers to save business names, addresses and phone numbers directly to the phone’s contact list as well as share the information with others via SMS. They can also contact businesses directly from the application.

Carey Bunks, head of Yell.com mobile, said: “With the introduction of Yell.com mobile maps, we can really help people get the business information they need, when they need it, from a trusted supplier and, importantly, precisely located. The service can literally help them map out their daily activities or evening out.”

Yell.com provides addresses of various businesses, shops and services in the UK on the users’ mobile phones. Consumers can search for a particular business via their phone by providing company name, location or business type as keywords.

The website contains around 2.3 million UK business listings on its database. Businesses can register their addresses on the website to make them accessible to users.

The new application is supported initially on 90 different handsets. Yell expects to expand it to more than 100 handsets by the end of August 2008.

The mobile maps application has been developed in partnership with Danish mobile search and advertising firm mobilePeople.

Jens Andersen, CEO and co-founder of mobilePeople, said: “We have worked with Yell to ensure that we can provide one of the most comprehensive mass market mobile applications, and are working hard to provide coverage to many more so that no matter what their handset, consumers can enjoy the benefits of Yell.com mobile local search.”
