The new sites have been developed using SDL Tridion software.

WSPA is creating an extranet called Animal Welfare Online, which is aimed at members of WSPA across the world. The charity hopes the new system will improve communication and information sharing as well as provide local organisations with a source of best practice information on animal welfare.

Mike Walton, head of digital at WSPA, said: Online income is increasing year on year and it is important that we have the tools and strategy in place to engage our supporters online. It’s important for us to embrace technology and web content management (WCM) as our websites are one of our most important marketing tools. We need to reach a global audience in multiple languages so it’s vital to use the best WCM technology available for managing global content to keep up the flow of long-term donations.

Walton said that nearly 1,000 organisations in 153 countries would have access to the site, which will include information on fundraising ideas. He said: Since we’ve been using the new software the team is saving a lot of time, sites can be deployed in hours rather than weeks. There are new WSPA sites planned in 12 different markets in six languages in the next few months. SDL Tridion’s software enables us to coordinate website content across the world.

SDL Tridion said that the charity required a unified approach to updating content across the network. WSPA wanted a central repository for text and images and it also wanted consistency in terms of content and language across various international editions of the new site.

SDL Tridion’s Terry Hall said: A single bed of code was needed for the WPSA. With so many sites planned the charity needed a way to transfer information quickly. Previously teams were working on different systems around the world. Now there is a single strategic hub of information, accessible from anywhere in the world.
