The Wireless Broadband Alliance ("WBA"), a pioneer in Wireless Broadband roaming for public Wi-Fi networks, has announced that 10 more organisations are joining the Alliance.
WBA said at the 18th WBA Roundtable Conference & WBA Partners’ Day in Auckland 2010 new technology members including Intel and Google are joining the alliance, along with Wi-Fi network vendors Aruba Networks, Meru Networks and Ruckus Wireless; and roaming solution providers Accuris Networks and Aicent.
New operator members joining the alliance include NTT DOCOMO, and TTNet, a broadband operator from Türk Telekom group.
The total number of new members joining the group in 2010 comes to 16 with these new entries.
The Alliance now includes a mix of technology providers and ecosystem partners, in addition to the Wi-Fi, mobile and broadband network operators from across Americas, Europe and Asia Pacific.
WBA chair Chris Bruce said all WBA Partners are united by two common objectives.
"First, these organisations want to work together to make the Wi-Fi experience easier for the customers, and second, there is a real focus on creating new opportunities for 3G Wi-Fi roaming," Bruce said.
Accuris Networks chairman Gilbert Little said they have been working with their customer base to make data offload and Wi-Fi roaming a reality and they feel the best way to realise this in the wider marketplace is to work with Alliance.
"We look forward to help accelerate the adoption of the required elements within the mobile and Wi-Fi networks and in the devices to enable Mobile operators to leverage the many benefits of integrated Wi-Fi access," Little said.
