VMware has released a raft of product updates as it eyes up the software-defined data centre.
The virtualisation firm has revamped old products and thrown in some new releases in a push to persuade customers to create their own software-defined data centres.
VMware‘s vision of that data centre is where it is all delivered as a service via virtualisation, and its vCloud Suite 5.8 update allows customers to build and manage vSphere private clouds on software-defined architecture.
It claims the latest version of the cloud suite will help firms reach new IT savings plus gain increased control and agility, while new features include adding disaster recovery services via its vCenter Site Recovery Manager.
Its networking solution, NSX version 6.1, comes with new additions like improved hybrid cloud connectivity, to enable use cases for self-service IT as well as improvements to its network micro segmentation (the process of dividing the network with more switches) to provide greater security.
The company’s vRealize Suite 6 is a new cloud management platform that combines cloud automation, cloud operations and cloud business management into one tool.
"The comprehensive platform is purpose-built to manage heterogeneous environments and hybrid clouds, and enables IT to deliver infrastructure and applications at the speed of business but with the control IT requires," said VMware.
VMware’s vSphere Data Protection Advanced 5.8 increases support for business-critical applications by providing augmented replication capabilities and back-up work streams.
Lastly, vSphere Remote Office Branch Office uses vSphere 5.5 Update 2 to allow firms with more than one site to quickly provision servers.
