VMware has unveiled the new Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) cloud, vCloud Hybrid Service, to offer the users a common platform for extending their data centre to the cloud.
The new cloud is built on the VMware vSphere platform and supports the tools, networking and security models across both on-premise and off-premise environments.
VMware CEO Pat Gelsinger said that with the introduction of the VMware vCloud Hybrid Service the company has coupled the VMware virtualisation and software-defined data centre technologies with the speed and simplicity of a public cloud service.
"VMware’s mission is to radically simplify IT and help customers transform their IT operations," Gelsinger added.
VMware Hybrid Cloud Services Business Unit senior vice president and general manager, Bill Fathers, said that the new VMware vCloud Hybrid Service delivers a public cloud that is interoperable with existing VMware virtualised infrastructure.
"By taking an ‘inside-out’ approach that will enable new and existing applications to run anywhere, this service will bridge the private and public cloud worlds without compromise," Fathers added.
Expected to be available by the third quarter of 2013, the cloud offers services including application neutrality, seamless networking and security, business-critical reliability and simplified management.
