Creativity Software claims to be one of the first companies in the world to deploy commercial LBS: Find Your Child. Its LBS include Family and Friend Finder, Vehicle Tracking, Workforce Management and Travel and Social Networking mobile applications.

The LBS platform locates a person or object either through control plane by using the infrastructure of the mobile operator, or through user plane by getting the geo-coordinates directly from a mobile device. The LBS uses mapping interfaces from Navteq/Tele Atlas digital map data. It also uses Google Maps / Google Earth, Microsoft MapPoint / Virtual Earth, Multimap and ViaMichelin.

Kishore Deshpande, president and CEO of Universal Software and Saul Olivares, market development director of Creativity Software, said: “Creativity’s LBS technology platform and Universal’s knowledge of the market and its relationships with the main players in the telecoms sector in the country is invaluable. We are both looking forward to establish an important presence in the market with high-end location based solutions.”

Akhilesh Trivedi, associated vice president-international business at Universal Software, said: “Over the last months we have seen increasing interest from the telecom service providers to bring to market new location based services. LBS is definitely gaining momentum here.”

Earlier in October 2008, Creativity has signed an MoU with Actel to offer its location based services throughout the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
