Uber is reportedly acquiring some of Microsoft’s map-generating technologies, in efforts to boost its own mapping service which forms the core of the ride hailing service.

The transaction will also include movement of nearly 100 data-collection engineers to Uber who are presently working on Microsoft’s image collection activities.

Uber is map-oriented service, and adding technologies and talent is expected to help the company boost its offerings.

Microsoft rival Google is an investor in Uber and it has integrated the ride hailing service into its Google Maps.

However, the companies are also competing with each other as both are developing similar services like driverless cars, same day package delivery service, and robotic vehicles that will carry passengers and packages, which could have prompted Uber to lean towards Microsoft.
