Twitter is planning to release a new feature later this year which will enable users to browse tweets based on live events.

The photo-centric tool, dubbed Project Lightning, will curate tweets on live events similar to Twitter’s version of Snapchat Stories.

Users can select an event through a new button on the Twitter app that shows several live events that are due to occur.

It will allow users to follow events rather than just people, and upload photos as well as videos for sharing across websites.

A team of editors will work together to select the best tweets and present those in a new full-screen format in chronological order.

Twitter head of product Kevin Weil told Buzzfeed, "It’s a brand-new way to look at tweets. This is a bold change, not evolutionary."

The company has been reportedly working on Project Lightning since January this year. The senior management shuffling will not affect its roll out.

Last month, Twitter introduced a new tool to help advertisers better understand their audience and to tailor ads in more effective ways.
