The Microsoft RT audio codec is an advanced wideband speech codec for real-time two-way VoIP applications. TI said the combination of VoIP and Microsoft’s unified communications platform will enable OEM customers to differentiate their products with their own value-added services.

Moz Hussain, director of product management of unified communications group at Microsoft, said: By integrating RT Audio Codec on its CPE platforms, TI is working with Microsoft to extend the footprint of potential endpoints that conform to the Unified Communications Device Qualification and are able to display the ‘Optimized for Microsoft Office Communicator’ logo.

According to estimates form research firm Analysys, by 2012 the VoIP services market is expected to generate revenue of $18.6bn in the US and $7.3bn in western Europe.
