A theft of computer equipment and network hardware at Vodafone’s exchange centre in Basingstoke, southern England, has resulted in disruption of the operator’s service in some parts of the UK.
Vodafone’s mobile network has been disrupted, with voice, text message and mobile Internet out of service for several thousand of customers.
The theft is believed to have taken place in the early hours of Monday morning.
Vodafone UK spokesman Simon Gordon said the company is working to fix the problem but added that it is uncertain when normal services would be restored.
Vodafone said, "We had a break in last night at one of our technical facilities which resulted in damage done to some of our equipment."
"We are working quickly to restore these and will be back to normal as soon as we can."
The company added that the security of customers’ private information has not been compromised.
