TeliaSonera said that it has selected Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Networks to deliver common 4G/LTE core network in Sweden and Norway. The agreement will cover network roll out during 2010 and 2011.

Ericsson has been selected as the sole supplier of the common core network as well as providing LTE radio access. TeliaSonera launched 4G services to customers in Stockholm, Sweden and Oslo, Norway at the end of 2009.

The 4G network roll-out will continue to Sweden’s 25 largest municipalities and recreation areas and to Norway’s four largest municipalities to offer communication services for the future, the company said.

Lars Klasson, senior vice president and CTO of mobility services at TeliaSonera, said: “The use of mobile broadband in the Nordic countries is exploding and customers need higher speeds and capacity. Both Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Networks have been able to provide high quality technology and competitive offers.”

Ericsson said that it has signed commercial LTE contracts with four major operators to date, including Verizon Wireless and MetroPCS in the US, NTT DoCoMo in Japan and TeliaSonera in Sweden.
