Telefonica Group has reported revenues of €14.13 billion for the third quarter of 2009, a decrease of 5.7% compared to €14.99 billion for the same period last year.

Operating income before depreciation and amortisation declined by 3.3% to €5.7 billion, compared to €5.9 billion for the same period a year ago. OBITDA margin was up one percentage point to 40.4% compared to 39.4% for the same period last year.

For the quarter ended September 2009, the company has posted a net income of €1.99 billion, down 0.6% compared to €2 billion for the third quarter of 2008. EPS increased to €0.44 from €0.43. During the quarter, the company’s customer base increased by 6.6% to 268m.

Geographically, Spain revenues decreased by 8.9% to €4.9 billion from €5.4 billion for the third quarter of 2008. European revenues outside Spain decreased by 5.5% to €3.48 billion from €3.68 billion, while Latin America revenues fell 2.3% to €5.6 billion from €5.8 billion.

For the first nine months of 2009, revenues declined by 3.3% compared to the same period last year. Latin America segment accounted for 39.8%, Spain contributed 35.1% while Europe accounted for 24.1% of the overall revenue.
