Telefonica Deutschland and its German unit O2 have announced plans to establish a new business division Telefonica O2 Germany by merging their business-to-business activities and the operation of their mobile communications and landline infrastructures.

The new business unit will combine the sales and marketing of the business customer offers for small, medium-sized and multinational companies as well as the landline wholesale business.

Johannes Pruchnow, chief executive of Telefonica Deutschland, will be the managing director of the new division, and Andrea Folgueiras, chief technology officer at Telefonica O2 Germany, will be in charge of landline operations in addition to her existing responsibilities.

The announcement falls in line with the strategy followed by the company’s competitors Deutsche Telekom and Vodafone, which have set up business customer units to provide a full range of bundled telecoms services.

Pruchnow said: Offers combining landline and mobile communications are becoming increasingly important, for business customers in particular. The new business division enables us to further expand our portfolio consisting of mobile, internet access, and VPNs. Our successful wholesale business will continue independently as part of the business to business unit.
