Telefonica has reported revenues in the first half of 2009 of €27.6 billion, a decline of 2% when compared to revenues of €28.1 billion in the same period of the previous year.

For the first half of 2009, Telefonica Espana reported revenues of €9.7 billion, a decline of 5.6% compared to €10.3 billion in the same period of the previous year. Telefonica Latinoamerica reported revenues of €10.9 billion in the first half of 2009, an increase of 4.2% compared to revenues of €10.5 billion in the same period of the prior year. For the first half, Telefonica Europe reported revenues of €6.6 billion, a decline of 6.2% compared to €7 billion in the first half of 2008.

The company reported net income of €3.6 billion in the first half, an increase of 0.7% from the same period in the prior year.

In the first half, operating income was reported to be €6.5 billion, a decline of 0.8% compared to €6.6 billion in the same period of the prior year.

This increase was driven mainly by sound revenue performance at Telefonica Latinoamerica, which contributed 2.8 percentage points to this growth, and, to a lesser extent, by the positive performance of Telefonica Europe, which contributed 0.5 percentage points.

In terms of services, the company consolidated its positive evolution in broadband connectivity revenues, both wireline and wireless, while the revenue contribution from value added services reportedly continued to grow.
