Sun Microsystems has announced Social Learning eXchange (SLX) Enterprise, a Software-as-a-Service, video community platform for the enterprise. It claims to enable employees, business partners and customers to communicate and collaborate effectively.

According to Sun Microsystems, the SLX Enterprise platform features user-generated content to allow employees, partners and customers to capture, upload and circulate information amongst each other and the community.

The new platform also claims to leverage social media information sharing capabilities including tagging, commenting, rating and sharing of content and provide access to content on demand through a web browser or a mobile device anytime and anywhere.

Sun Microsystems said that the new platform can be applied to business functions including sales enablement, marketing communications, employee collaboration, training and social learning.

Charles Beckham, CTO of Sun Learning Services, said: “One of the most important elements of successful team collaboration is how engaged employees are with one another as well as with customers and partners. The use of SLX Enterprise at Sun has helped fueled the building of online communities and dramatically increased collaboration among key company stakeholders.

SLX Enterprise is currently available in beta and is expected to be generally available in July 2009.
