Virgin Media is the UK’s fastest broadband speeds, providing twice the speeds of its nearest competitor say a ranking released today.
Figures from speed testing service Ookla found Virgin Media achieved average download speeds of 52.98MBps during June 2014, up from 49.26MBps during the previous month and more than double the 25.27MBps average achieved by its main rival BT.
Zen Internet came in third in the ISPreview.co.uk chart with 21.67Mbps, ahead of Plusnet (20.83MBps) and Eclipse Internet (15.77MBps).
Some of the more established ISPs fared poorly, with TalkTalk (13.40 MBps), EE (13.32 MBps) and Sky (13.28 MBps) lagging behind their smaller rivals.
Overall, the average UK download speed increased slightly to reach 22.06 MBps during June 2014 (up from 21.7 MBps in May 2014), while uploads increased from an average of 5.04 MBps in May to 5.237 MBps now, according to Ookla’s survey of eight leading ISPs.
Virgin Media has looked to invest heavily in its home broadband service, launching its fastest ever network in February, which is capable of producing speeds of up to 152MBps to its 12.5m UK customers, twice as fast as any other currently available service.
The figures come a few days after Ofcom revealed that its broadband services attracted the least amount of complaints during the first three months of 2014, recording just 0.07 complaints per 1,000 customers.
"Whilst it is great to see customers have told Ofcom we are better than BT, Sky and TalkTalk, there is always room for improvement," Virgin Media’s chief executive officer Tom Mockridge said in a statement.
"We believe we can do even more and are working hard to deliver the best customer experience every time."
