Data and content offer opportunities for operators in Singapore due to high mobile Internet usage and a new fiber network, said a new report from Pyramid Research.

The report, "Singapore: National Fiber Network Levels the Playing Field for Operators", offers a profile of the country’s telecommunications, media and technology sectors.

It also provides competitive analysis of both the fixed and mobile sectors, tracks the market shares of technologies and services and monitors the introduction and spread of new technologies, said Pyramid Research.

Pyramid Research Analyst Emily Smith said the national fiber rollout will quickly gain traction and increase consumer spend, as well as increase businesses fixed broadband penetration, which, at 62% is below that of its peers.

Smith said, "Opportunities will present themselves more strongly after 2013, when the island-wide free broadband service is transformed into a paid service, when Pyramid expects mobile broadband connectivity services to reach 47% by 2015."

The rapid pace of smartphone adoption means that more and more mobile subscribers will be increasing their mobile data service usage.
