Targeted at the UK and Irish IoT market, Schneider Electric has launched a micro data centre to tap into the edge computing space.
Attending DatacenterDynamics Converged Europe (DCD) in London, the company said the range enables data processing to be brought nearer to the point of M2M data production in IOT and other highly automated applications.
It said that the micro data centre has been designed as a single enclosure which includes a UPS, power distribution unit, cooling and DCIM.
SE said the micro data centreis aimed at customers who need to reduce latency and quickly add capacity while ensuring a secure and easy to manage environment.
The local hosting product’s portfolio includes the SmartBunker SX (for IT rooms), SmartBunker CX (for office environments), SmartBunker FX (ruggedised for any environment), and SmartShelter (multi-rack, also ruggedised for any environment).
Kevin Brown, VP of global data center strategy and technology at SE, said: "Through the micro data centre offer, Schneider Electric is addressing the latency, bandwidth and processing speed challenges customers are facing with the growth of connected devices and data applications."
David Cappuccio, chief of research for the infrastructure teams at Gartner, said: "Localised or micro data centres are a fact of life, but by applying a self-contained, scalable and remotely managed solution and process, CIOs can reduce costs, improve agility, and introduce new levels of compliance and service continuity."
