Twitter has denied the rumour that it is to shut down in 2017, saying that the viral rumour was baseless.

Rumours quickly spread on Twitter and other social media sites that Twitter will be closing down business in 2017.

The rumour reportedly started through a Youtuber, BradTheLadLong who, who said that he had successfully lobbied Twitter to shut down in 2017 as it was not handling abuse and cyberbullying properly.

This news spread through fake accounts and within a short time it turned viral and spread across the internet like wild fire, resulting in the creation of hashtag #SaveTwitter. More than 100,000 tweets were sent using the hashtag.

For quite some time Twitter has been used by several users to abuse and cyberbully other users. There are certain examples where celebrities have deactivated their Twitter accounts due to cyberbullying.
