Samsung has unveiled an upgradable model of ‘smart’ television that can be connected to the internet, providing users access to a new on-demand animated television channel Angry Birds for free.
Analysts say the facility of internet is offered on most of the high-quality TV sets, and thus sales of internet capable televisions are on the rise.
At this year’s CES, connected televisions with built-in processors are one of the hottest trends, with the organisers claiming that about half of all TVs shipped in 2012 would have internet capabilities.
The new Samsung television is powered with a built-in camera as well as face, voice and speech recognition features which will help change channels by speaking in 20 languages and browse websites by waving hands, along with the ability to receive future software updates.
Most of the features have been a reality as the television is equipped with dual microphones and a discreet camera at the top.
Samsung is on course to hit a figure of global TV app downloads before the end of January, according to Tim Baxter, President of consumer electronics America.
Boo-keun Yoon, President of consumer electronics at Samsung pointed out the firm sells two televisions every second.
While Samsung looks ahead to launch the smart television, LG has announced a television with built-in Google TV for the US market.
