CRM software vendor Salesforce.com has launched a private beta for its real-time enterprise collaboration application Chatter, to around 100 innovators to test through enterprise collaboration in the program.

The company said that the private beta enables customers to access Chatter’s real-time feeds through BlackBerry or iPhone mobile devices.

The company said that Chatter is a secure enterprise application that will allow companies to collaborate in real time through profiles, feeds and status updates. It will also deliver relevant information to users based on the people, documents and apps they decide to follow.

The Chatter private beta will enable customers to introduce real-time collaboration within their enterprise and provide feedback to salesforce.com on the technology experience before it is generally available.

Built on the Force.com platform, the Chatter keeps private information safe, allowing companies to leverage the information contained in social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter to establish bonds with their community of customers, partners and employees, the company said.

According to Salesforce.com, the social features of the Chatter include, profiles, status updates, Chatter feeds, application updates, document sharing, AppExchange, mobile and desktop, security and social sharing, and social networks.

Marc Benioff, chairman and CEO of salesforce.com, said: The end of legacy collaboration software like Microsoft SharePoint and IBM Lotus Notes is here. Consumer Internet services like Facebook and Twitter have shown us better ways to collaborate. Using the same social features and real-time feeds popularized by these consumer services, Salesforce Chatter changes the game for collaboration in the enterprise – all without the cost and complexity of software.

Salesforce Chatter is scheduled to be available in CY2010, for $50 per user per month and will include Salesforce Chatter, Salesforce Content and Force.com.
