Riverbed Technology has updated its Granite server appliance to include added support for fibre channel networking and more powerful branch appliances.
Granite, designed for branch offices, enables companies to transfer data across networks more efficiently by removing smaller data centres from branch offices into one main datacentre.
Granite appliances fit in branch offices as a local storage and backup devices, sending data to the main data centre.
The new Granite 2.5 is supposed to expand storage and aid offline operations if a branch is temporarily cut off by offering a 10TB storage capacity.
Other features include new storage management and snapshot tools that improve data protection and allow users to better manage remote storage hardware and application deployments.
The San Francisco-based company the appliance now supports fibre channel networking and internet small computer system interface (iSCSI) that should help expand compatibility to 90% of storage space.
Mike Rinken, director of information technology at consulting firm Mazzetti, said: "In our business where large CAD files have been moving toward a more collaborative parametric modeling data set, more resources for Granite Edge appliances make perfect sense. We can consolidate even more data and still make sure branch users get the local performance they need to be effective."
