Rackspace Hosting has released a new email hosting service, Rackspace Archiving, which enables hosted email customers to keep a backup of incoming and outgoing emails.

Rackspace said that the new archiving service allows customers to retrieve an email at any time using the search functionality, such as when an employee accidentally deletes an important email, or when emails need to be retrieved for a discovery request.

According to Rackspace, for companies to retain and retrieve email data can be a business demand, but it can also have legal consequences. Federal regulations, such as the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP), have requirements relating to a company’s production and retrieval of electronically stored information. Its new archiving service enables companies meet such legal burdens.

The company said that the new archiving service is available for its Hosted Microsoft Exchange and Email customers, and includes: unlimited storage and data retention time – built on the Rackspace Cloud; new search functionality with ability to create and save searches; data storage in more than one location; control panel administration, and Fanatical support.

Pat Matthews, general manager of Rackspace email and apps, said: “With email making up the lions’ share of business communications today, the amount of email is vast and unmanageable for many companies.

“With the addition of Rackspace Archiving we are delivering a best-in-class business email solution to meet this growing customer need.”
