Palm has unveiled new features of the webOS platform – Palm media sync, Twitter in universal search and App Catalog’s beta version.

The company said these features will be available on new Palm Pre phone to be launched on Sprint’s mobile broadband network.

Palm media sync is a feature of webOS that synchronises seamlessly with iTunes allowing the user to transfer DRM-free music, photos and videos to Palm Pre phone.

Twitter search is integrated into webOS universal search. Through Twitter’s search service, universal search segregates real-time current events from news.

The new App Catalog beta version will feature applications from developers such as AP News, Citysearch, Fandango and uLocate. Also included in the beta App Catalog is Pandora which makes use of the platform’s multitasking capabilities.

Jon Rubinstein, executive chairman of Palm, said: We designed Palm media sync to be an easy and elegant way for you to take the content you own and put it on Pre, and it’s just one of the ways we think you’ll be amazed by webOS.

“We’re excited to launch Pre with the beta version of the catalog, which will give a taste of how the overall webOS ecosystem will work.
