Otesat-Maritel, a provider of satellite telecommunications services, has signed a distribution agreement with Inmarsat, a mobile satellites firm, to distribute the new Global Satellite Phone Services (GSPS) IsatPhone, the first satellite handheld by Inmarsat with global coverage.

The new satellite phone uses the fourth generation Inmarsat satellites and provides reliable network connectivity with high quality telephony and competitive prices on services and equipment.

The new GSPS is designed to work in harsh weather and environmental conditions and provides satellite telephony, voice mail, SMS, e-mail and GPS location data.

In addition, it has great battery life, Bluetooth, calendar, alarm clock, calculator, mute microphone and synchronisation with MS Outlook 2007 (PC).

The IsatPhone addresses an array of professionals and individuals on land and at sea such as shipping companies, seafarers, sailors and yachting, government and armed forces, the media, and manufacturing companies.

The companies said that the new satellite phone has a single / flat rate per service worldwide and is an ideal offering especially for international telephone communication where land mobile phone networks are inadequate or the telecommunications costs are very high.

The new phone service will be available in the first quarter of 2011.
