Business software and hardware systems company Oracle has acquired GoAhead, a Bellevue Washington-based company that develops and delivers packaged service availability software for the communications industry.
Oracle hopes the acquisition will help network equipment providers (NEPs) by providing a comprehensive and integrated offering that delivers service availability across telecom offerings.
GoAhead and Oracle will operate independently until the deal closes, which is expected to take place before the end of 2011.
Oracle Communications Industry Solutions vice-president Nigel Ball said NEPs are moving to a standardised software and hardware platform that can deliver and manage "highly available" services.
"GoAhead software is the leading commercially-available solution that is compliant with Service Availability Forum specifications, the most widely adopted standard for service availability software," said Ball.
"The addition of GoAhead technology will help us deliver a comprehensive, standards-based, carrier-grade platform that supports the delivery of new services in the call path of the network," added Ball.
