Norway-based Opera Software has unveiled the final version of its browser Opera 10, with a new compression technology and a sleek interface. It comes in 43 languages and works on Windows, Mac and Linux platforms.
According to Opera, the new Opera Turbo, compresses web pages and gives up to eight times faster web surfing than other browsers in slow connection speeds. It will automatically detect, when network speeds will enable the user to benefit.
Opera said that the new version allows users to resize the tab bar by pulling down on it or double-clicking the handle. It shows full thumbnails of all the open tabs. Opera 10’s Visual Tabs are placed at the top, but it also allows users to put them on either sides or at the bottom.
Other features include an expanded speed dial; spell checker which supports 51 languages, using an open source Hunspell dictionary format; and built in e-mail client.
The company claims, the new browser to be faster on resource-intensive pages such as Gmail. It is 40% faster in page loading than opera 9.6 and that is before activating the Opera Turbo. It’s adaptive memory management is optimised to work with the users’ machine, conserving memory if the computer has less RAM and utilising more memory to enhance performance if the computer has memory to spare.
