Olivetti Systems and Networks has won a contract to supply the Galileo air reservations consortium with M250E AT-based personal computers and the OLICOM Token Ring board with RPL software. However, Galileo won’t allow Olivetti to disclose the value of the contract, or the number of personal computers that it will resell to travel agents under the Galileo badge. Olivetti’s M250E AT-bus workstations will enable users in the Galileo IS.5000 system to connect to the company’s data centre in Swindon, Wiltshire, and users can obtain information about the availablility of flights, accommodation, and carhire. Galileo is also evaluating Olivetti’s M211V portable personal computer for its mobile sales force. The IS.5000 workstations are to be offered in a 3Mb diskless configuration with the Token Ring board and remote loading facilities. Olivetti’s previous agreement with Travicom, now known as Galileo UK, was for ET.3000 workstations with 1Mb and either a 20Mb or 40Mb hard disk unit.
