O2 has entered into an agreement with mobile mapping and navigation provider Telmap to offer navigation services to O2 customers on GPS-enabled handsets.
The company said that it has worked with Telmap to optimise the application for use on its network and will be providing first level customer and billing support.
Telmap’s navigator offers a mapping and GPS navigation experience with features including in-car 3D maps with text-to-speech technology, traffic alerts with alternative route options and turn by turn directions while walking. It will also allow O2 customers to access relevant content including places and businesses, event ticketing, restaurant listings and reviews. The company will incorporate points of interest such as O2 Academy venues and Wi-Fi hotspots.
Peter Rampling, marketing director at O2, said: “We have worked closely with Telmap to build a service wrap around the application which we believe will offer the best customer experience. Navigation is fast becoming one of the most popular mobile services and we look forward to bringing this leading application to our customers.”
The subscription charge for the service will be integrated on the customers’ mobile phone bill. The company will also offer customers to try the service for 14 days before they decide to buy. There will be a range of subscription packages available, starting from £3.50 per month, the company said.
