Motorola has teamed with Time Warner Cable to develop a multi-room digital video recorder system using Motorola tru2way set-top software.

According to Motorola, the Follow Me TV system will enable subscribers to access, share and place shift video recordings throughout the home. Time Warner Cable aims to bring the system to market later in 2009.

Motorola has developed the whole-home digital video recorder (DVR) system to work with tru2way software and the Motorola DCX3400-M and Motorola DCX3200-M tru2way-enabled set-tops.

Motorola has said that using Multimedia over Coaxial Alliance (MoCA) technology, the system creates a multimedia network using existing coaxial cable in consumer homes. The network can transport high-definition video, high-quality digital voice, and high-speed data to televisions, DVRs, game consoles, wireless access points, and home computers.

Larry Robinson, vice president for product management with Motorola’s home and networks mobility business, said: As an open specification, tru2way enables the set-top to be a platform for new media mobility applications such as whole-home DVR. This industry-leading collaboration will help Time Warner differentiate its offerings, retain customers, and increase revenue opportunities.
