Schneider Electric has expanded its micro data centre portfolio with the release of four solutions for edge computing applications aimed at the IoT.
The company said the single enclosure solutions are targeted at customers who need to reduce latency and add capacity in a secure and easy to manage environment.
The micro data centre solutions include SmartBunker SX for IT rooms, SmartBunker CX, optimised for office environments, SmartBunker FX, ruggedised for any environment, and SmartShelter for multi-racked ruggadised environments.
Schneider Electric said its localised data centre physical infrastructure includes the enclosure, UPS, power distribution, DCIM, environmental monitoring, cooling and security.
Dave Johnson, SVP for Data Centre Solutions at Schneider Electric, said: "We are already seeing the emergence of edge applications in retail and industrial applications, and we believe the need for edge computing will only grow as the Internet of Things expands into commercial applications."
David Cappuccio, VP at Gartner, said: "By partnering with vendors, and creating a consistent and standardized architecture, enterprises can regain control of these critical assets, and increase the ability to rapidly introduce site-specific services, while reducing risks and operational costs, and improving service levels."
