Level 3 Communications said that it will provide backbone network connectivity for TDS Telecommunications (TDS) to support the deployment of their all-IP nationwide network. TDS also plans for Level 3 to carry voice traffic to support its local and long-distance services.
Under the terms of the agreement, Level 3 will provide more than 25 10Gbps wavelengths to connect core locations on the TDS network. Level 3 wavelength services enable TDS to transform their existing network infrastructure to an all-IP-based architecture, which simplifies network maintenance and delivers greater operational and costs efficiencies across the network.
The 10Gbps network architecture enables TDS to deliver enhanced voice and data services, improved service reliability and greater rural access to services across multiple markets in 30 states. The network upgrade also provides a foundation for the delivery of next-generation services, Level 3 said.
Ken Paker, vice president of network services at TDS, said: “Level 3 offers the extensive network reach and service portfolio for TDS to upgrade our network infrastructure and connect numerous markets across the country. The Level 3 network enables TDS to deliver high-quality services to our end-user customers, while also providing ongoing operational and cost benefits for TDS to better manage our nationwide network.”
Andrew Crouch, president of wholesale markets for Level 3, said: “Level 3 delivers the right combination of advanced network technology and connectivity to support TDS as their nationwide backbone provider. Level 3 continues as an industry leader in IP-network technology, offering the network reach and services to meet the growing demand for communications today and into the future.”
