Leostream, a developer of virtual hosted desktop software, has unveiled a new version of vendor-neutral connection broker, which it claims to provide simpler deployment and efficient management of hosted virtual desktop infrastructures (HVDI).
The Connection Broker is a software management layer that ties desktop images in the data centre to the end user devices such as thin clients, laptops, workstations or web pages. It provides HVD support for VMware, Citrix, Microsoft, and Xen.org hypervisors, as well as for hosted applications and sessions, physical desktops, dedicated blades and other systems.
According to Leostream, the new version includes features such as, web client that allows users to access their desktops and applications through the web; end user functionality and administrative functionality; support for the Xen.org centres, which enables effective management of HVDs built on the Xen open source hypervisor platform; enhanced remote access support for Sun environments; and expanded support for hardware PcoIP.
In addition, the new offering allows system administrators to maintain granular control of remote viewing sessions in multiple protocol environments. The registry plans allow for the setting of registry keys on remote desktops and the CD and DVD drive redirection. It also supports Ericom Blaze RDP acceleration and compression, the company said.
